Dear Bryan,

Some folks may disagree with my advice but I'll give it anyway.  If money is no object, buy whatever collections of songs you wish.  However, if you're like my students, money is tough to come by.  This said, my advice is to wait until you can speak with or meet with your teacher at the start of the semester.  Your teacher will probably have specific collections and pieces in mind for your studies.

As a teacher, I'm always happy to have a student take the initiative to explore new repertoire but it's difficult to deal with students who come in with lots of books of repertoire for which they may not be ready, or which for any number of reasons, I don't want to work on.  For these reasons I will say again, consider waiting until you've met with your  teacher to spend much money on collections.

Have a wonderful semester.

Could anyone give me insight into which JOhn Duke music book would be the best to buy.   What are some of the songs in his different books?  What are some of your favorites?  Along the same lines, what are some of your favorite Britten vocal pieces?  What are some german arts song books youd reccomend?  Im purchasincg lots of vocal repetoire before heading back to school this fall so I'd really appreciate your help!

Thanks,
Bryan
