This was on "Who Wants to be a Millionaire?" tonight (paraphrased):
Which of the following singers broke a glass on the old "Is it live, or
is it Memorex?" television commercials (shown in the 70's?)?
(a) Diana Ross
(b) Nina Simone
(c) Barbra Streisand
(d) Ella Fitzgerald
(I think the order of the singers presented on the show was different--I
wasn't paying terribly close attention.)
The answer was Ella Fizgerald.
Now I have a question for the list:
Were there ever any opera singers featured in Memorex commercials? I
seem to remember an operatic diva wailing a high note and breaking that
glass, but I can't recall who that might have been. Or, for that
matter, if I'm even remembering it correctly--that commercial has been
spoofed so many times on American television that I could be thinking of
something else entirely.
