Keep in mind that Asia is a very large continent. Milk is a MAJOR dietary item in South Asian cuisines. My faithful Indian companion (who is off in Mumbai visiting his parents) tells me that the reverence for cows in Hindu culture actually reflects their value as a source of milk!
Come to think of it, the presence of cream, butter, etc. is probably what keeps Indian vegetarian cuisine from tasting like penance. :-)
Sheep, goat and camel milk figure prominently in Near Eastern, Greek and North African food, in the form of yogurt and cheese.
Hey, if milk gums you up, gives you cramps, or you just plain don't like the smell, DON'T DRINK THE STUFF. That just leaves more cheese, ice cream and raita for the rest of us.

I think gasoline should cost 49 cents a gallon. No, darn it, make that 29 cents a gallon! Also the gas-station attendants should pump it for you. And when you get home, you should be able to watch Milton Berle on your Philco TV. --Dave Barry
