First -- Please do NOT interpret this remark as beginning another, unwelcome, discussion on specific singers we like or do not like. I was just reading Peggy's thoughtful post in response to Danielle's question, and it strikes me that if I am much aware of the difficulty of the artistic challenge when I listen to an art song performed, I may not truly be hearing one of the best recordings of that song available. To my ears and in my opinion, making the difficult sound simple is the goal of each performer, whether vocalist or instrumentalist.
