I did a pants role once and walked on stage and did the standard stereotypical pants role acting - you know, one foot up on a bench to show that I'm butch :) - and suddenly the bench started to vibrate - audibly!! Enough that other people on stage looked at the bench. I took my foot off and it stopped shaking. It's happened a couple of times since and I just tell myself (quickly so I don't dwell on it), "It's only going to do that for a second and then it will be over."
Read Shirlee Emmons' and Alma Thomas' book Power Performance for Singers. I cannot recommend this book highly enough!!!!
