Hi Laura, Dean and everyone!

I think the message Laura was referring to may be this one (I was doing
a lot of catching up with the last digests, this afternoon, and so have
been able to recover it quickly enough). So here it is:

In Oren Brown's book DISCOVER YOUR VOICE he tells of a disorder called
"diplacusis" where each ear hears a single pitch differently, resulting
in a
total inability to distinguish pitches correctly. I would imagine that
this
would be fairly rare, but I don't know for sure. In the 4 years I have
been
involved with a children's chorale and the years I have worked with
children's church choirs, I have seen lots of seemingly tone deaf kids
"catch
on" and learn to sing on pitch. However, there are others who for some
reason
NEVER get it. It is sad when one really wants to sing and can't
stay in
tune. We are dealing with this right now with an 8 year old who wants
to
sing more than anything but has to concept of pitch. I really wonder if
she
has this disorder.

Leslie

I hope it helps!
