Subject:  soft palate

For those of you who know your anatomy . .

I've been looking at what muscles do what, and what nerves. It's getting a
little confusing. I've found that lifting my cheeks - that is taking my
fingers and pushing them up - makes my soft palate go up. It has helped me
get clear on the feeling I want without overdoing. My question is "Why?"
Why does that work? What does the zygomatic arch have to do with the
levator palatini? And it is not just the soft palate - I feel my whole
pharynx relax and expand. What is going on? What muscles are doing what?
Is there some kind of nerve connection?

Jean Marie
