Karen,

I don't know if this helps but I did a translation of an opera review below in
which the quoted word "stimbrati" appears-

Which to English is something like-
"We pass over to the feminine roles: the Cenerentola/Angelina di Monica Baccelli
has been
sure valid, with many optimal things and some small defect. Its voice has a
dark, warm and
suadente stamp, the fraseggio has been often precious, wonderful most flat,
sweetest the
closings of phrase. An interpretation of great level, also musical, in which the
only problems
they are appeared in the acute ones, sometimes " stimbrati ", and in the ostiche
agilities of its
part, than seppur sonorous have seemed a po' sfocate and devoid of roundness."

I could not find the other word, 'uires' nor a definition of it. My friend, who
is Portuguese and helped me with these, is unfamilar with it also. Maybe
they're misspellings? (God forbid!)

For 'Schiacciati' there is a new report from Naples and a recipe from a
cookbook. Good luck.

Tragedia a Lettere, vicino Napoli. La casa sfondata mentre erano a pranzo in
cucina
Schiacciati dal crollo di un convento - Tre morti, tra
loro una donna incinta

Tragedy to Letters, close Naples. The smashed in house while they were to lunch
in kitchen
Crushed from the landslide of a convent - Three dead
men, between them one pregnant woman

And for 'schiacciati' I found this in an Italian cookbook, which see-

Aprite i Galletti a metà, oppure utilizzate i Galletti Grill, già aperti, e
cospargete bene entrambi i lati di sale ed aromi. Poneteli su un tegame od una
bistecchiera ben calda, mettendo poi sopra ai Galletti un coperchio ed un peso,
per tenerli ben schiacciati sulla superficie di cottura. Regolate il fuoco, che
sia vivo ma senza bruciare, e girate frequentemente i Galletti. Sul finire uno
spruzzo di limone e servite con fresca insalata.

Which may translate to something like (Not sure- Never made this one.)

To divide the Galletti to half and rosolarli to alive fire in a tegame with the
oil. To then add the onions cut sottilette and continuing to make to rosolare
until when the onions very will be gilded. To add the concentrated one of
tomato, rooms and pepper sufficient to. Inaffiare, gradually, with the beer. To
add the champignons then. To complete the baking, covering the tegame and
adding, gradually, the brodo that it will allow to catch up the wished
consistency of the gravy.

So I believe the word means 'crushed' (mashed? mooched? smashed?)
