Subject:  Re: [vocalist] Hyperthyroidism medication and voice

I went around with an enlarged thyroid for more than ten years, until I fell
into what was for me health-care Nirvana (a good HMO). Turns out it was
either a benign tumor or Graves' disease. The specialist discussed the
treatment options with me, and addressed my concerns as a singer. I got
radiation treatment, and am now taking Levothroid to keep the hormones at a
proper level.

As far as long-term effects go, my mother's cousin has been taking thyroid
medication since 1948 with no problems. I'll leave specific medical stuff
to Dr. John.
