As far as the local classical station is concerned, we're in the same boat. In fact, KDFC dropped the Met broadcasts over a year ago-- although I understand one reason was that the Met management would not allow the station to time-shift the broadcasts. (They started at 11 am out here on the Left Coast.) No choral music, aside from a Sunday morning program of sacred works.
But... the area supports three (count 'em) Gilbert & Sullivan companies; opera companies large, middle-size and small; half-a-dozen (at least) symphonic choruses and untold numbers of church/synagogue/ whatever choirs. We're also blessed with a fair number of non-commercial and college stations that will break out in classical music on occasion. And Stanford University is notorious for (among other things) its large number of a-cappella singing groups.
