I hope this helps. I don't use Mac, so I don't know if this works.

Adding fonts
When the computer is started up from Mac OS 9 and you add new fonts
to the Fonts folder in the System Folder, you must restart an application
in order for the new fonts to be available to that application. Mac OS X
differs in that you must restart the entire Classic environment, not just
the
specific application, after adding fonts to in the Fonts folder.

How to restart or shut down Classic
1. Choose System Preferences from the Apple menu.
2. Choose Classic from the View menu.
3. Click the Start/Stop tab, if necessary.
4. Click the Stop or Restart button, as desired.
