Only a suggestion but boy how often do we see the need.
I suggest that ONLY the middle C octave have letters without numbers. A to G.
When we need to refer to an upper or lower octave we place a number in front of the letter to indicate a note below the centre octave and a number after the letter to indicate a note ABOVE the centre octave.
Examples 1C is the C below middle C. C1 the C above middle C. A is the A below middle C. 1A is the A below that. The reference is always the middle C octave.
The centre octave is from A below middle C and has NO numbers attached. The upper or lower case have no significance at all, thus defeating the original argument for introducing that much mis-understood system.
