I meant to post yesterday that, indeed, both Frisell and Reid only talk about TWO registers - falsetto and Chest. Anything else is a mixture between the two. I think both also suggest that the falsetto is positioned above the chest voice - at least to begin with.
Frisell suggests that the range of the falsetto can be increased - especially going down.
I don't think either teachers suggest that falsetto is inbetween the chest voice and the head voice.
I think Manuel Garcia did - but I can't verify it from anywhere. I was noting that sometimes a "false" voice seems to appear to me when I am trying to keep my upper register engaged in the lower part of my voice and it doesn't "connect" right. This seems to happen around an F3 to a D4 sometimes. Anyway, neither Frisell nor Reid ever states that the falsetto is lower than the head voice. The reason I mentioned it in the first place was that Michael Gordon mentioned that his low falsetto notes are truly false and useless sounding, and I wondered whether we might actually be talking about the same phenomenon.
