When your note came this afternoon, I just happened to be glancing at a beautiful work for tenor, flute, English horn, and string quartet by Peter Warlock--The Curlew. The texts are by W. B. Yeats. In the score, Warlock has this note: This work "should not be regarded as a set of songs, but rather as a piece of chamber music in one continuous movement." The text may be too gender-specific to be "doable" by a soprano, but I think it is a great piece.
