I've receveid the answer from the italian website on
"Caro mio ben" 's original key. If you understand
italian, you can just read below. If not, let me tell
you that they don't know the original key of this
arietta, but they do know that it was NOT written by
Giuseppe Giordani (Giordaniello), but by the Giuseppe
Giordani priest of Tommaso, working in London and
Dublin. After this, he recommends some sacred works.
I think that, by this, whoever was interested in the
original key (sorry, I don't remember anymore who
asked this question first), can do a more accurate
research now.

non so qual'è il tono originale. So solo che non è
stata scritta da
Giuseppe Giordani detto Giordaniello (Napoli 1751-
Fermo 1798) ma da
Giuseppe Giordani padre di Tommaso attivo a Londra e
Dublino. Difatti lo
stile è coevo di Haendel e non può certo essere del
Giordaniello che è
della seconda metà del settecento.
Se ama anche lo stile sacro (per la verità non molto
dissimile da
quello operistico) Le consiglio le nostre
"GIORDANI:Otto Arie Sacre per
soprano ed organo" costituite da 7 offertori (una
versione MIDI di
"Ascendit Deus" è su Classical Archives) e una
lamentazione.
Quest'ultima è incisa nel doppio CD delle Lamentazioni
e Miserere
(SYMPHONIA).
