Subject:  RE: Throat Trouble please help!!

It may be that you revert to the habits that hurt your voice when you
sing pop music. Sometimes it can be helpful to do something totally
different while you're learning new technique, because it's too easy
to fall into the tensions of the old technique. Eventually, of
course, when you know how to sing in a healthy way, you can sing any
type of music you want.

On the other hand, it may be that your teacher doesn't feel
comfortable singing or teaching pop music and her way of handling
this is to make all her students sing the music she feels most
comfortable with.

You have every right to ask the teacher what her strategy is with
respect to preventing you from singing pop music -- and then choosing
whether she is the right teacher for you at this time.

I would encourage you to take the throat trouble seriously though.
If your throat hurts when you sing, that's a real problem and can
have serious consequences. Please consider prioritizing your vocal
health over other concerns.

All the best,
Naomi
