Kathleen Battle sang on Janet Jackson's "Janet" album. A song called "This Time." It's not half bad. Battle sings operatically, but does have a few moments where she sings some of Janet's lines. Kind of amusing. Personally, I was shocked that she agreed to do it; she just doesn't seem the type.
Did anyone see the tribute to Andrew Lloyd Webber on PBS? It was for his birthday. All his big singers were on hand, including Glenn Close (who stole the show, in my opinion). Anyway, Kiri made an appearance near the end of the show to sing a song called "The Heart is Slow To Learn". My friends who never listen to opera thought she had a horrible voice. It was just something they weren't used to hearing. But she had to jump between pop singing (for lack of a better term) and then she would suddenly open up in her upper range. I didn't find it particularly pleasant to listen to - it seemed she was really struggling. But I admired her courage to attempt it!
I'm glad this thread has gotten so many responses; as well as your opinions of those recordings. Keep 'em coming!
