Subject:  an a-ha moment!

Everyone,
I just had one of those a-ha! moments. My teacher and I have been working
on a fuller, more resonant sound, and it has been difficult for me to pin
down what exactly was going on when it was good, when was it not as good.
In my previous study, it was always very clear to me what I should do, and
what it should sound like to me. But this fuller resonance was eluding me.
Well, I did what me teacher asked me to. As I practiced, I recorded myself
and played it back immediately. Man, I could tell!! But as I was doing the
excercise, I thought, this can't be right - it's too far back. It didn't
feel the way I was expecting it to feel. And inside my head, it didn't
sound like I thought it would.
Hooray for recording as a feedback resource!!!

Also, teachers out there - do you often find it easier to diagnose your
students than diagnose your self? I sure do. But when I heard that
recording right after I sang it, I could hear exactly what my teacher was
talking about.

Now if I can just do it all the time . . .
