karen,

i once had a job in a bookstore run by a guy who had a phd in ancient
languages. he told me once, he thought that when he got his phd, the gates
of heaven would open and pour endless oppurtunities on him. it never
happened. i don't think he realised that the only job in the field, that
probably ever existed, was held by his advising professor (what else would he
have done? translate at trials for criminals who have been reincarnated?).
it sounds like you have altered yourself from being a singer who has
oppurtunity, into a singer who has a lot less.

can you not vary the weight of your voice for different styles? if
your technique is really good, you should be able to do anything you were
ever capable of. perhaps you should explore widening your versatility so
that you can have all the oppurtunities you always had as well as the new
ones you hadn't had before.
