Well, the soft palate is dropping in response to something else. I'm assuming she does not have velopharyngeal incompetence, otherwise her speaking voice would be nasalized. Because the soft palate is ALWAYS raised in nonnasalized sounds. Figure out what antecedent is causing the issue and the palate will raise on its own.
