This may look like a frivolous question but it is not.
I have been wondering for a while what would be the ideal mental constitution for a singer. I seem to have recurring difficulties because I am a 'full throttle' kind of person and it affects my attack (too heavy), my fortes (too loud) and my ego (sensitive to criticism). I know these are areas that I should work at, but some of it seems to be in my nature.
Some of the most successful singers I know are fairly balanced, some even a bit boring, with good self esteem who don't care if they sing a bit under par at times. I am hyper and nervous. When I sing well it's good. When I don't I bomb. I guess you get the idea...
I believe also that in the long run the patient ones will make it as they just have the character to persevere. Any thoughts?
