I've been lurking for a while but the recent discussion started by Mirko and expanded by other listers regarding the use of the voice in singing and speaking reminded me of a wonderful book by Dr. Linda Rammage (speech/language pathologist) of the Pacific Voice Clinic <http://www.pvcrp.com/> . 'Vocalizing With Ease: a Self-Improvement Guide' includes lots of easy to understand explanations of proper vocal (speaking) techniques, exercises for improving the voice, and a series of 11 detachable practice posters that you can put up to remind yourself and your students of correct technique. The book is copiously illustrated with humorous cartoons depicting the various ideas presented. As much as we try to maintain good technique and practise good vocal hygiene, we still get hit by the occasional bout of vocal unwellness. I'm going to assign Ingo Titze's article 'Vocal Meltdown in October' from the Jan./Feb. 1994 NATS Journal as required reading for my students. Cheers, Craig Burnaby, BC
