Cortisone is a medicine that will temporarily solve a vocal problem caused by
infection
of the chords or otherwise and get you through a performance. It is also
extremely
dangerous. It can cause lucemia to break out if it is latent in the body, but
might never had developed
otherwise. Rumors are that that is what brought on Jose Carrera's bout with the
disease.
It happens rarely, of course, but it does happen. (I know personally of a case
many years ago in
Toronto.) So think very carefully if it is worth the risk.
