Subject:  Re: [vocalist] I'm back!!!

I've spent much of the last year working out residual vocal technical
issues, and discovering that I get much greater artistic and spiritual
satisfaction out of singing sacred music than I do from singing opera or
musical theatre. I am now determining what this means for how I approach
my performing career, and strategising next steps, incluing a concert of
my own favourite sacred arias and solos from the past 400 years, which I
hope to turn into a repeatable programme that I can give at several
(numerous?) different venues throughout what remains of 2002 and in 2003
(and even beyond).

I've also "discovered" early music - as a singer, rather than a listener.
One of the wonderful technical discoveries of the past couple years with
my "new" teacher (teacher of the past 3 years) is that despite having a
dramatic-sized voice, I have a voice that can really MOVE, to do
coloratura. Which has opened up all sorts of repertoire possibilities I'd
have never contemplated even 4 years ago. So I've been dabbling in Handel
and Bach - feeling more affinity for Baroque than Classical/early Romantic
"coloratura" rep - though I am also making forays into Donizetti and early
Mozart. All of this is leading me to realise that I have some major work
to do in learning early-music stylistic conventions, to which end I'm
hoping to work with some coaches who specialise in that repertoire in the
coming year.

My hope is that the two new discoveries will coalesce in a way that
qualifies me to "compete" in the hard-to-crack nut that is the oratorio
"market" in the D.C./DelMarVa area.
