Subject:  Re: [vocalist] Classical/non-classical singing

Just a few thoughts running through my head when I came across this
post:

Audra McDonald was educated at Juilliard and has a BM in classical
voice from this instituition which would lead me to believe that
while she was there, she probably was involved in classical recital
or opera in some way, although she has never been involved in these
professionally.

I wonder if the pop singer Jewel has yet been mentioned. It is my
understanding that she was on scholarship to the Interlochen Academy
in Michigan and pursued classical training there. From what I have
heard, she wanted to be an opera singer until she was told that it
would take at least ten years to establish a career in this field.
Two years later, she released her award winning debut CD "Pieces of
You".
