Subject:  Singing through the nose

As far as I know, when you sing (with good technique,
in a "classical" style) there shouldn't be any
difference in sound quality if you plug your nose.
However, I have a student who has a huge difference.
He is also quite nasal when he speaks. Does anyone
have any suggestions for exercises to fix this? Any
explanations for what's happening?

Jennifer
