Subject:  singing and acting

On a related note to my Carmen question - back when I had no real
technique to speak of, it was very easy for me to "lose myself" in
the character when I would perform, because I didn't really have
anything else to think about.

Now that I've learned about support and breath control, I do have to
focus on keeping the rib cage expanded and the breath going and
articulation and all that good stuff. As a result, I can't just "let
go" and "be" the character.

This causes me to think there must be some kind of middle ground
where you are in character, but are still mainly focused on singing
correctly. Is this how it feels to you? Any hints or insights? Much
appreciated!

Thanks,
Karena
