The "money note" is not always a high note. I think for basses and contraltos, the real "money notes" are at the bottom of the range, not the top. It's the fact that I can sing a good, solid low D with colour, texture, spin, and volume in "Der Tod und Maedchen" that sets me apart from the mezzo-sopranos (and even some of the tenors :) ) out there.
So what if I can also sing a presentable high B. So can every dramatic soprano going.
