Mike anyone who joined up the pitches in his speech, as
is needed in a legato singing line, would be accused of hitting
the turps. And I totally DISagree with what you say about the
speed of speaking needing less time to enunciate, than with
singing. On the contrary, the efficiency of usage of the
mechanism in singing enables even faster delivery with
clarity, than most speech.

This difference, at least in classical singing, is what I meant
when pointing out that there are also other ways of using the
mouth that don't meet the essential usage of speech. These
also, are VERY different. The duration of a consonant is minuscule
in comparison with the vowel and performed skillfully, carry none
of the tensions of most speech patterns.
