They may have originated in the Chasidic tradition (I don't know but it
wouldn't surprise me), but they are quite widely used, including in my own
Reform congregation.

I have seen it spelled both ways. Remember, it's not an English word and
would "properly" be spelled with Hebrew characters!

BTW, John, I listened to your Russian Siciliana. Thanks for posting the
link. It's beautiful and does sound convincingly (neologism alert!)
