To add to the several experiences shared here:
In graduate school, I sang a NATS competition, and one of my songs in my
program was "De dónde venís, amóre?" from Rodrigo's CUATRO MADRIGALES
AMATORIOS. The clever judge commented that my Italian was too mushy.
Hmmm...fella, that was Spanish???
We all had a good laugh over that at my conservatory!
