Subject:  Rather Off Topic But Still Musical: Alouette

Dear List,

I know that this is a pretty stupid question, but I need a little translation
help on the children's standard ALOUETTE, GENTILLE ALOUETTE. How does the
phrase "Je te plumerais" translate? My college freshman french 102 daughter
tells me it means "I will pull your feathers out."
OK.........................But just in case this isn't quite the truth does
anyone know for sure?

I actually need to know this for a friend who is taking some kind education
course and she asked me to provide 3 foreign language songs for preschoolers.
She needs the translations.

Thanks in advance,
Leslie
