Dear Lauren and co vocalisters,
There are several ways to do this
1. Use the line in from your sound card on your computer. You will need a second (one comes with your minidisk recorder) normal mini plug to cinch cable and two female to female cinch plugs (total: approx. $ 8,-). You don’t even need to buy software, almost all operating systems (Windows95 and up, Mac probably as well, Linux of course) have a simple recorder program that comes with them. More comfortable is a program like Cooledit (trial version will do, but I think it’s Windows only: http://www.syntrillium.com/. In this way you will lose some quality and depending on your computer you might even get a 60 Hz hum (outside US mostly 50 Hz) or other (soft) funny noises in the recording (seldom or never with a Mac), but the quality is still ok and this is a cheap solution. 2. Use a stand alone cd-recorder which has (optical) digital in (there are many non-professional people that have those things) and buy or use a standalone minidisk recorder, which has digital out. Copying to a cd is very simple with those machines. 3. Buy a better sound card that has digital in and buy a standalone minidisk recorder, which has digital out, or find someone who has such a machine. 4. There are many people (especially in the pop music-scene) who have all kinds of machines you need and will be happy to help you, because they hardly ever have an opportunity to use them. 5. Use Christine’s advices: ideal is of course a sound engineer, or if it’s only every once in a while, you might ask a stereo shop: for them it is really very simple to do it, because they have all the machines, at least at present.
Best greetings,
Dré
