a good place to start with callas is her two 'tosca' recordings.
they, sort of, represent the two voices of callas. the earlier one was made
before she lost weight and doesn't really exhibit the tremolo that was so
characteristic of so much of her singing. the later recording, while
representing that tremolo, is the one i prefer. i just like it better,
musically (i also prefer bergonzi's cavaradossi to di stefano's).
concerning 'that tremolo', i grew to like it, eventually. i like her
singing and i associate the tremelo with what i like (similar to having a
close friend who is little on the homely side).
