Yes, Barber wrote the music, but Menotti was the
librettist. And I've always thought the "Under the Willow
Tree" quintet in Vanessa sounded a lot like Menotti - an
off-center folk-song, like Black Swan (The Medium) or
Lullaby (The Consul).
