I have found "Diction for Singers," along with Castel and Grubb, the
authoritative word across the board. My colleagues who have gone
through the "big three" apprenticeship programs (San Francisco's, the
Met's, and Houston's) are taught the same pronunciation rules, and I
understand that these texts are standard in the academic world. I
also asked a friend of mine who is a tenor for the Vienna Staatsoper,
and he confirmed the rules of Latin pronunciation set forth in DforS.

Regardless of the historical accuracy of the anecdotes in a
particular
book, the rules of diction seem to be widely accepted in the
professional world.
