Subject:  RE: [vocalist] Terminology Question

Dear Tina and co vocalisters, please go to:

http://tenorland.com/fachsystem/

The funny thing is, you'll find a text from one of our vocalisters,
Graham Sanders. Does anybody know what his link to tenorland is?

The text says:

"A few words about the
German Fach System

Graham Sanders, Heldentenor, Bremen Staatstheater

The German Fach System is a means of categorizing voices by vocal weight
and color. It was developed so that an opera house can hire people and
expect that they will be able to sing certain roles out of their entire
repertoire. (ie: A Heldentenor will be expected to sing Tristan,
Siegfried, Otello etc.) This aids the planning of future seasons and
gives everyone a foundation to work upon. It is also a help to the
singer, because it stops the house from giving a singer a role which is
impossible for them to sing."

I used the word Fach at a few places, because I did not want to use the
word 'voice category' for several reasons I cannot explain here.

best greetings,

Dré
