Please let me add my congratulations to Vicki. As it happens, I had a similar situation on Saturday - it was my 3rd acquaintance with Puccini's Messa Di Gloria (a piece I love more than is probably healthy for me!)
It's been a couple of years since I've sung the work, and during the interim period my voice has started to mature and develop in terms of power. For the first time on Saturday (in Canterbury), I found myself possessed of sufficient "oomph" to be able to confidently sing the "Gratias agimus tibi" solo in the Gloria without worrying whether the audience would be able hear me over the combined efforts of the hefty brass section for which the piece is scored. (Tuba and all). I enjoyed myself tremendously.
The contrast of the hefty solo in the Gloria and the achingly beautiful "et incarnatus" solo in the Credo is simply divine. What a super work. I know it has its knockers (oo-er) but I adore it.
Cheers to all
