Dear Janis:

You wrote:

anything that you can do to make it brighter? I am 47. I sing with forward
placement but there is still the dark rich sound."

Why?!? There's nothing wrong with rich and dark! Why, it's yummy! You're not
describing yourself as hooty or breathy, you're only using positive terms.
Sheesh, I've been bright my whole life and have often thought, "wouldn't it
be nice to be rich and dark". Think of it as having curly/straight hair.
Both are beautiful, but many a curly-que wishes her hair were long and
gleaming and the glossy-haried one longs for ringlets.

Is someone telling you you should be bright? Are you unhappy with your
sound? When you describe it as "rich and dark" it sounds to me as though you
like it or you would have said "back and covered" or the like. Perhaps a
choir director is wanting something different from you?

Please let us know why you want to change.
