Subject:  Re: [vocalist] Onset of sound

When I begin the sound, I concentrate on expanding slightly around my
midsection (below breastbone, above navel) - sort of a two way compression
- the diphragm dropping from the inhalation, then the lower abdomen muscle
compressing slighly - but my focus is on that slight feeling of expansion
(even a slight bearing down) that causes a slight expansion in the
midsection (can't think of another way to put it).

I find it also helps, sometimes, to do a little "stroke" of the muscle
between my thighs - basically, the buttocks muscle at the point where it
is going between the legs. Don't know why this works - perhaps because it
focuses my activity lower than the throat/larynx?

Verdi and Wagner delighted the crowds
With their highly original sound.
The pianos they played are still working,
But they're both six feet underground.
