I think that a lot of the problem is due to his voice probably not having
finished changing yet and what he hears from you has different harmonic
frequencies etc. I'd be surprised, but I would imagine he's still in the
middle of the transition, and that those notes are on the higher side of
where his voice naturally lies, which adds to the confusion. What pitch does
he speak on?
You might just have to wait a little
