Subject:  Re: half hour lessons

I just think that the teachers who are responding to this post are
indicating why they chose the durations for lessons that they do.
Personally, half hours are just right for new, naive students who find the
time filled with new information.
I encourage 45 min. when the student and I believe it is "time" and 1 hr. is
definitely reserved for more "serious" study.
What we have to remember is that teachers set up their students differently
and keep what works and throw away what doesn't. This diversity will not
change.
We just need to agree to disagree.
When I first took singing (we won't say how long ago that was), I could have
stayed for an entire day, sucking as much out of my teacher as I could. I
was that overjoyed to begin the process. After the novelty wore off, I
enjoyed my half hour classes and saw the validity of the amount of technique
and repertoire that one could cover if prepared. I did, however, still look
forward to the time when I would require longer lessons.

ps...one more thought...Age of the student is also a factor to me as well as
the type of singing lesson. My musical theatre students all take 45 min.
because we're covering much more than singing. Classical exam students also
do 45 min. or hourly classes.
