Indeed. I have seen this role portrayed (always with at least some degree of
success) by singers aged around 18 to 50.

Incidentally, to the person (sorry, I've forgotten whom) who said Lady Jane
was another Mezzo-suitable part, I beg to differ. It is much better suited to
a genuine contralto - there are several points where the voice needs to be
strong and the notes required (and tessitura) will tend to lie happier in a
contralto than a mezzo.
