Subject:  Tongue Tension

Hello everybody!

I read Colin Reed's explanation regarding tension in the nostrils very
carefully, and also how the tongue is involved in tension generation.
Consequently, I have questions regarding tongue tension: I have heard from
many sources that relaxing/releasing the butt/fanny/bum (etc,.) is something
that is good to do but I never knew why (I heard that even one of the great
tenors, either Caruso or Gigli practiced this technique). What other ways of
relaxing the tongue/jaw are there? what do you do if you feel tension creep
up on you, specially while you are singing? Does the tongue have some sort
of connection (muscles/nerves) with the lower pelvis or muscles of the butt
region? Perhaps there is a real neuromuscular connection? I am extremely
curious. Has anybody else heard of releasing/relaxing the butt? I certainly
have.

Thanks,

Rick
