Hi,

I posted a file to http://groups.yahoo.com/group/vocalist-
temporary/files/ called strohbass.wav. This is the sound I mean when
I'm talking about Strohbass. Maybe I'm mistaken, but I *think* this
is what it is. It used to be a much fuller sound - I haven't sung
this way in years (now that I sing in a totally different range).

I'd like to hear from the singing teachers out there to see if this
is really Strohbass, I've been going on that assumption for quite
some time.

From what I understand, Strohbass is very "clicky", pressed and thin.
It projects OK, due to the upper partials, but it doesn't give the
same full-sounding ensemble support of a true profundo (like the one
in the SF ensemble, Chanticleer). I used to sing in a college a
cappella group, and of course the ability to sing very low notes was
highly prized, so I focussed on this kind of singing for several
years.

I use this sound from about G1 through Bb2. Down to about B2 I can
use my "normal" speaking voice.
