Silence - ABSOLUTE silence - is a wonderful medicine. Unfortunately many
people put themselves on this medication and then drop the bottle after
the first few hours on it (I'm the world's worst offender in this) And
like antibiotics you don't stop taking the medication as soon as you
show signs of getting a little better. A lot of vocal damage is caused
not by incorrect use of a voice that started in a healthy condition, but
by otherwise correct use of a voice that is feeling a little sickly (oh,
what a long sentence...) Easier said than done. Come on, hands up those
on this list who can honestly say they have never _ever_ sung on a less
that 100% healthy larynx? (or doesn't such a wonderful thing really
exist?)

cheers (very quiet ones, in sign language)
