Thanks to Lloyd and everyone who posted! Lots of good points were brought up.
I selected that list of arias because each and every one of them was at one point suggested that it would be good for my voice.
As someone on this list (was it Karen?) said, Marguerite in Faust should be sung by a fuller soprano (my voice teacher agrees). My leggiero (-ina) friend sang it last year, and she thinks it would be more effective if a voice like mine performed it. This same friend also sang a Susannah scene, and my teacher and others think Susannah is better left to fuller soprano voices as well. Just an opinion. I am aware the "Czardas" is NOT an easy piece, but I believe I can polish it come October. I must say that I DID sort of "huh?" when one of my teachers suggested Tosca's aria for me. This is the last aria I would select...well..that and the Pique Dame one, as I know Tschaikovsky is not easy for the orchestra to play, though the aria is not a difficult one for me VOCALLY. No, my Russian is not perfect....another reason why I think I am going with : Porgi Amor (I know it very well already) Jewel Song Czardas
Past winners have won with: (last year)- Che bel il sogno di Doretta and Glitter and be Gay the year before- Italian Street Song ...and something I forgot..lol the year before THAT- Ach ich fuhl's, Voices of Spring, and O mio babbino the same soprano, two years earlier, sang Mein Herr Marquis , Musetta's Waltz, and Ah jeux vivre.
Sooooo I realize that I am taking a chance here, being a baby dramatic and not a coloratura. Obviously, the judges here like light soprano voices...when I am a "baby dramatic".
We'll see what happens!
Thanks all,
Molly
