SECULAR:

George Gershwin: Our love is here to stay

Ron Grainer: I Know Now (from ROBERT AND ELIZABETH)

Leonard Bernstein: One hand, one heart (from WEST SIDE STORY)

Shania Twain: From this moment on

Cole Porter: True Love

Wright/Forrest: This is my beloved (from KISMET)

Webster/Livingston: The Twelfth of Never

Thomas Moore/traditional: Believe me if al thy endearing young charms

Robert Burns/trad.: My luve is like a red, red rose

The Beatles: In my life

Given your friend thinks "Bist du bei mir" is too hard, I'm hesitant to
suggest anything classical as everything I can think of would be even more
demanding technically than that very straightforward Bach piece. That
said, if your friend merely has a "block" about that particular Bach
piece, and is willing to consider other classical suggestions (that are,
in fact, at least as "hard"), he might consider:

Vaughan Wiiliams: The Call (from FIVE MYSTICAL SONGS)

Albert Mallotte: The Lord's Prayer

Or he might consider singing, as a solo, an appropriate hymn. Some that I
like are:

Joseph Barnby: Perfect Love
John Berridge: Since Jesus freely did appear
Henry Baker/Henry Gauntlett: How welcome was the call
Edmund Spenser/Henry Lawes: Most glorious Lord of life
Peterson: May the grace of Christ our Saviour
Hyde Beadon/"Carlisle": All praise to You, O Lord
Mandell Creighton/"Melcombe, Kent": O Thou who gavest power to love
John Ellerton/"Aurelia, Dank sei Gott in der Hoehe": O Father, all
creating
John Newton: May the grace of Christ our Savior
Carl Johann Philipp Spitta: O happy home
Edward Welch/"St Alphege": We lift our hearts, O Father

And, of course, there's the old chestnut (which I think is quite lovely):

Noel Paul Stookey: The Wedding Song (There is Love)
