Bejun Mehta was a celebrated treble singer - praised by the likes of
Leonard Bernstein. I think he even had his own Delos CD, which got
him a "best new artist" award somewhere or other. He tried singing
baritone and playing cello after his voice broke, but never got
anywhere and finally tried countertenor. He's pretty hot now, subbing
for the likes of David Daniels. Nice sized voice as a soprano and
countertenor.

I believe Max Cencic, the male soprano, was a professional boy sop as
well. There is a strong tradition of trebles going on to be
countertenors, especially in the UK. IMHO, these men are so
successful as countertenors is because they have years of experience
singing in their upper voice, as female singers do.
