Hi John,
No, the institute is not just the science and theory behind singing. However, the first block is a review of basic anatomy and phys and the standard scientific principles of voice production. The most "applied" stuff will happen in block-three where an icon in the field of pedagogy, Oren Brown, will conduct a few weeks worth of lectures and masterclasses in voice production. SVI participants are used for the demonstrations here. The most important point to stress is- at the conclusion of the nine credits you will receive a "certificate in vocology" from U. Iowa- which is the top program in the nation for speech path and audiology. Dr. Titze coined the term "vocology"- which he calls "the science and practice of voice habilitation". The major drawback of the courses is by far the pace. Doing nine graduate credits in the span of two months is taxing on anyone! The web site for the institute is: www.ncvs.org
Take Care All,
